In this review, I take you through the pros and cons of the Audible App after taking advantage of the free monthly membership deal on my commute to work. I will take you through the Audible UK cost, how to get a free month Audible trial, the type of free podcasts and books you can get and I summarise if an Audible subscription is worth it.

My experience of Audible

After seeing an advert for a free Audible trial, I thought why not. I made use of the free audiobook credit and read the motivational bibliography “Total Recall” by Arnold Schwarzenegger. A great audiobook read by Arnold himself like he is talking to you. Total Recall is the unbelievably true story of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s life. Born in the small city of Thal, Austria, in 1947, he moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21. Within ten years, he was a millionaire businessman. I finished this audiobook in just 5 days of commuting to work each day. It really feels more productive listening to stories, as opposed to reading them.

Since that book, I’ve read The Fear Bubble by Ant Middleton (within 4 days) about his time in the army and climbing the scary Everest, plus lots of free podcasts from The Grown-Up Guide to Dinosaurs, to The Dark Web to Putin: Prisoner of Power – all really interesting free podcasts that I finished whilst running, commuting or just at home whilst working. The cost was free for the first month with one credit, then only £7.99 a month thereafter.

Is Audible worth it?

Audible Positives

-A free month’s trial with a free audiobook, than £7.99 per month
-Opportunity to change audiobook if you don’t like it
-The latest audiobooks are available at a cheaper rate than buying the physical book
-Listen to books on the go, great for commuting and running

Audible Negatives

-Not the same as a reading a book in terms of obtaining information
-Not great for the book shop sector
-The app doesn’t seem to have the same choice as the Audible main site

Is Audible worth it? Overall – I’d give Audible 4/5 star. I’d say join up to the £7.99/month, but if you find you are low on funds or not getting through the credits, cancel it and rejoin at a later period on a free month trial.
