Online shopping tips for Black Friday

1024 683 Great Deals Made Easy

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday takes place on November 27, – the day after the U.S celebration of Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday on November 29.  Many retailers report some of their highest profits on Black Friday. The black portion of the name, “Black Friday” relates to businesses recording their losses in red ink and gains in black.

Last year, research has shown 91% of stores took part in the UK, so expect 1000s of great discounts. Black Friday deals will be promoted across all major retailers, from the likes of Amazon, Argos and Currys to John Lewis, Debenhams and cashback sites.

Below are some top Black Friday tips to give you the advantage over the crowds online and in stores:

Research the product you want beforehand

Make a checklist of items you want to get with budgets and your must-haves. There is no point of spending more than you must. I recommend reviewing prices online before hitting the shops.

Look at the price, rather than promotion.

It’s very easy to look at the big red stickers with 50% off but check what the real price is. Sometimes, it isn’t necessarily a great deal made easy.

Remember Cyber Monday

Historically, Black Friday was for hitting the high street and Cyber Monday was when you could go online for some top deals. Now, more money is spent on the internet than in-store on Black Friday, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore Cyber Monday.

-Grab half price books from Waterstones, with leading books with discounts.

Check the warranty

Sometimes it is easy to make an impulse decision, particularly if it is a great deal. Always check there is a return policy, in case the clothes don’t fit, or if the present isn’t what you thought. You can only return non-faulty goods for an exchange or refund if the retailer has a returns policy – most shops do, but they’re not required to by law.

Use Cashback sites

Join a cashback website like TopCashback or Quidco – these are the two biggest players in paying you to do your shopping online. They direct customers to retailers which pay them a portion of £ from the item you buy and act as a broker to get the cashback to you from the Retailer. If you are buying something anyway, it is an effortless way to top up your money.
