If you buy your train ticket via a cashback website, you should get a small percentage of each purchase you make credited back into your account.

Use discount codes when shopping online.

Avoid paying the full price, by searching for the product item or retailers name and adding the words “discount codes” on a Google search. Alternatively, download the Google Chrome plug-in ‘Honey’, this trawls through the web for discount codes and then messages you when there is one available for the retailer/item you are looking for.

Buy second-hand gifts and save

If your friends and family are not bothered about presents being sparkly new, check out bargain sites Gumtree and Freecycle.
