The organic market reached a record value in 2021, helped by massive growth in online deliveries and food box deliveries, like Riverford. As a new customer, in this article, I review the Riverford veg service, explain the pros and cons of joining, provide an overview of the Riverford farmer service & give a £15 referral bonus (disclaimer: I get £15 too).

Who is Riverford Organic Farmers?
Riverford Organic Farmers is the UK’s largest organic veg box scheme, delivering to more than 45,000 homes each week. The UK-wide organic vegetable box delivery company was founded by Guy Singh-Watson in Devon, England, but has sister farms in three locations around the country. They lead the veg revolution since 1986 but provide more than just veg, they also offer fruit, meat and BBQ-tailored veg. They have some good green credentials, they’ve saved 21 tonnes of plastic, donated over 1 million portions of veg to charity, planted 1525 native trees, and raised £164,744 for Send a Cow.
How did I hear about Riverford Organic Farms?
I met the sales team at the Lambeth country fair, in London. They seemed a good bunch and sold me on the idea of receiving the weekly fresh organic veg right to my door. An additional incentive was a free cooking book and the intrigue of trying new vegetables. It all seemed a healthy and great deal made easy! So I dipped my toe in.
Riverford delivery
The Riverford delivery is free (if you do the random veg selection box). You’re also free to order as often or as little as you like. You can place a one-off order whenever you fancy, with no future commitment. One positive feature is their delivery driver is a local driver and the same each week, rather than a normal courier. For example, next week, I will get salad potatoes, carrots, and bunched onions mixed with Chard, Lettuce, Courgettes and Sweetcorn (not bad for £15) and all with free delivery. The delivery driver comes to me every Friday, early in the morning, which suits me, as can get food inside before work. You can request certain days and times and they can give you a slot.

Riverford prices
For a random selection of vegetables, it is £13.25. Get the first one for free with £15 off. If you order any of their set boxes, there is no minimum spend. If you prefer to build your own box, there is a minimum order of £15 (without meat). To build your own meat box, the minimum meat order is £15. Once your meat order reaches £15, you can add any number of non-meat products.
Riverford boxes reviews
Trust Pilot gave Riverford Organic Farmer a score of 4.8/5 with many customers quoting the fresh veg freshness and top service. Many recommend the amazing organic food with the taste being on point! Being a new customer, I have been impressed so far with the freshness (can still see the mud of the potatoes) from the local farms. I’ve been impressed with the delivery service, the vegetable selection, and the price of £13.25 seems reasonable. Plus, you can pause/cancel deliveries if you are away or have too many vegetables!
Is Riverford worth it?
For me, the benefit is buying from Riverford is that it encourages you to eat more healthily and in a sustainable way, supporting local UK farmers. I do feel healthier, eating organic vegetables and am eating new types of food, than my staple Supermarket foods. The cost of £13.25 for a medium-sized box of vegetables, is reasonable considering the door-to-service and fresh/organic vegetables you receive. Riverford also sends your recipe ideas for the seasonal veg. The downside is you can only eat food in season, so there is less predictability of what veg (or meat/fruit) you may receive. Overall, I would recommend giving it try (here is a £15 refer a friend code) I give it 4.5/5.
